skull and tentacles

one of my favourite things that i have made for uni this year

a skull spewing out tentacles...what can i say. the skull can fit in the palm of your hand. the tentacles overpal around each other and even flick up at the edges

this was originally about the concept of paradise - specifically how when we die we expect all of the evil in our lives to remain on earth and decompose with our body. if we have been 'good' we expect only reward and happiness in whatever lies beyond death.

this is made from air drying clay - my new favourite medium. this isn't painted because the clay has this wonderful grey/blue quality that made the work so spooky. the skull was made by picking up a handful of the clay and handsculpting it into form. the tentacles were made by rolling the clay out into slithers adn doing whatever alterates necessary to make differnet tentacle types.
